Obituary of Edward Joseph Brodow

EDWARD JOSEPH BRODOW May 5, 1923 - October 4, 2018 New Windsor, NY Edward "Ed" Joseph Brodow of New Windsor, New York died Thursday, October 4, 2018, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 95 years old. He was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Brodow. Ed was born May 5, 1923, in Nassau County, NY. He is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Catherine Mitchell Brodow; his five daughters: Nancy B. Bumpass (Merritt), Marilyn C. Quinlan (Arthur), Catherine M. Pfitzner (Ronald), Maryann Brodow Centra (Mark), and Barbara B. Baldwin (John); nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Ed worked for Central Hudson Gas and Electric Company and retired after 35 years of faithful service. He was a Merchant Marines veteran from World War II. He was a member of the Y.M.C.A. for 50 years and loved playing floor hockey well into his 70s. He was a parishioner of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Newburgh, NY, formerly a trustee for the parish, and also was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Ed was a devoted husband to Catherine, always putting her first. He also was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a humble, generous and kind person who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The wake will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, October 8, 2018, at Hudson Valley Funeral Home, 239 Quassaick Ave., New Windsor, NY. The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 145 Benkard Ave., Newburgh, NY. Burial will be in Saint Francis Cemetery, Union Ave., New Windsor, NY.
