ANGELINE GRUBER

Angeline Gruber, a very special Mon and Nonna, passed away, at the age of 103, at home, on November 14, 2018. A homemaker, she was a Newburgh resident for 96 years.
Angeline was born in Pietramelara, Italy on February 26, 1915, the daughter of Catherine Mancini and Samuel Leonardo. She came to the U.S. at age of seven and attended Newburgh Schools. She is a graduate of N.F.A. She was a devout parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and a member of the Altar Society and member of the PTO for the school.
Angeline was an avid knitter and could make any plant grow and thrive. She showered her love and nurturing care on her children, grand and great-grandchildren and they all loved her dearly. Being the matriarch of her large family, she loved her brothers and sisters unconditionally.
The widow of John Gruber, she is predeceased by daughter, Linda Gruber, and her brothers: Constantine, Samuel and Anthony Leonardo and her sister, Ellen Sculley.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Nancy Barker and son-in-law, Joel, who treated her as his own mother with love and care; granddaughters, Dr. Lisa Stuerken (Marc) of New Milford, CT and Lauren Barker (Michael Ferguson) of Newburgh; also great-grandchildren: Annika and Luke Stuerken and Delana, Michael and James Barker Ferguson; sisters: Amy Antinori and Jean Mendoza; sister-in-law, Joan Leonardo and brother, Paul Leonardo and many nieces and nephews.
Our family would like to thank Mid-Hudson Home Health care for providing us with caregivers: Monica Obeng, Melva and especially Ester Odeleye and 5th-floor caregivers at St. Lukes.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 18 at Hudson Valley Funeral Home, 239 Quassaick Ave., (Rte 94) New Windsor, NY. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:45 a.m. Monday, November 19 at Sacred Heart Church Newburgh, burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor, NY.
