MSGT Alecks S. Elia of New Windsor, NY a correction officer for Orange County Sheriff’s Office passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, he was 56.
Alecks is the son of the late Soter T. Elia and Julia Spero; he was born on June 22, 1962, in Salem, MA. Alecks was a member of the VFW Maybrook, Marine Corps Assoc., Fleet Reserve, American Legion Post 1796, and the N.Y.S. Sheriff Assoc., New Windsor Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Alecks served in Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and served in Afghanistan.
Alecks Elia is a selfless soul who dedicated his life to the service of his family, his country, and his fellow man. He held strong beliefs in the rights and freedoms of everyone, and he tirelessly worked to protect them. On numerous occasions, his bravery was called to task as he put his own life at risk to help others in desperate need, far away from his home. He acted on what he thought was right and his devotion to his family never went unnoticed. As a man, and a patriot, he was an example to us all. He is loved and will be dearly missed by the family, friends, and community he leaves behind.
Alecks is survived by his wife, Emelie Turingan Elia at home; two daughters, Kristene Alecks Elia and Nicole Alexis Elia, both of New Windsor, NY one brother, Ernest S. Elia of Massachusetts and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 16 at Hudson Valley Funeral Home, Inc., 239 Quassaick Ave., (Rt 94) New Windsor, NY. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church New Windsor, NY; burial will follow in Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery Goshen, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation 909 N Washington Street Suite 400 Alexandria, VA 22314.
