Obituary of Paul Petrillo
Please share a memory of Paul to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Paul James Petrillo passed away on Thursday, August 22nd, 2024, at the age of 64. He was born on August 31st, 1959, to Patricia McCarthy and Joseph Petrillo in Newburgh, NY. He was raised in Newburgh and was fiercely proud of where he was from.
Paul performed lots of different jobs throughout his life. He was a Harley Davidson mechanic, a licensed physical therapy assistant, a tow truck driver, a dock builder, a business owner, and even an underwater welder.
Paul had many, many friends. If he saw, you out and about he would never hesitate to stop and ask how you were doing. Before it closed its doors Paul loved to frequent The Big 3 Deli. He enjoyed sharing lunch at Pete’s Hotdogs with his dog Hercules. He appreciated a good movie (especially a Western) and reading the newspaper. When he wasn’t working on his Rat Rod he loved riding his Harley with his son Sean. He immensely cherished the camaraderie he found as a member of the Chosin Few Leathernecks Motorcycle Club.
He loved deeply, experienced profound losses, and struggled greatly with addiction. He did his best despite his shortcomings and family was always extremely important to him. He won his battle with addiction and achieved over 10 years of sobriety. It remains one of his biggest accomplishments, and one that everyone was extremely proud of him for. He always spoke with pride about his children Sean & Tarryn and adored his grandchildren.
Paul is preceded in death by his mother and father, Patricia and Joseph Petrillo; his big brother Joey; his older sister Maureen and niece Erin Irish. He is survived by his sister Kathleen Petrillo-Bair, her husband James and daughter Maureen; brother-in-law Joseph Irish and nephews Jason & Brian; his son Sean, his wife Christie, and his children Zuleima, Tamia, Addison and Tyler Duke; his daughter Tarryn with her husband Ron and sons Lincoln and Maverick; and his faithful dog Hercules. Paul was part of a very large Irish-Italian clan with numerous remaining aunts, uncles and cousins, some of whom he shared very close bonds with.
Toward the end of his life Paul was fortunate to receive exceptional care. His cousin Debbie Sarvis was a tireless source of care and support for him. Various doctors and nurses at Castle Point VA Hospital, Vassar Hospital, Fresenius Kidney Care, Hospice of Orange & Sullivan County and the Kaplan Family Hospice House provided care & comfort for Paul. For those moved to honor that care, donations to any of the organizations mentioned will aid in their ability to help others in need.
A memorial service will be held for Paul on Sept 14th 2pm at 30 Lawrence Ave, New Windsor, NY 12553
