Nancy Coen, 85 years of age, passed away Sunday, June 2nd, 2024, in Wallkill. Nancy was born on December 2nd, 1938, on the island of Ischia, Italy, to the late John and Concetta Mazzela. She was the middle child of seven siblings, with two preceding her in death. Nancy immigrated to the United States in 1957 and married the late Arthur Coen in 1958 and three children were born from this union. Nancy’s first profession was a seamstress, and later worked at her husband’s and son’s joint business venture ‘Art and John’s Auto Body’. She also worked alongside her son John at Diamondback MX where she registered riders and scored the races. Nancy was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh. In her later years, she joined the Red Hats where she was crowned the Queen Bee. She was a passionate chef, cooking meals for twenty or more guests for any major holidays and hosting the parties at her home. She was the matriarch of family, bringing dozens of friends and family into her home to celebrate holidays and birthdays. Nancy Coen is predeceased in death by her husband Arthur Coen, her son John Coen, and her grandson Joey Coen, 2 sisters Maria Coppola, and France Coppola, 3 brother in laws Joseph Coppola, Vincent Coppola, and Joseph Palumbo. She is survived by daughter Angela Coen, son Carlo Coen and his wife Maria, John Coen’s wife Kelly, grandchildren Lia Masiero, Zina Scharder and husband Jon, Devin Masiero, James Coen and his wife Chelsea, Emily Coen, Anna Coen, and Lily Coen, as well as many great-grandchildren, and 3 sisters Lina Coppola, Tina Palumbo, and Antoinette (Italo) Fattore, 1 brother Luigi (Teresa) Mazzela, and 1 brother-in-law Antonio Coppola. In lieu of a formal wake and funeral, a small graveside service will be held on Friday, June 7th at 11 A.M. at the Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor, followed by a gathering of family and friends at Angela Coen’s home in Marlboro for a celebration of Nancy Coen’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Ulster County Hospice.
