Obituary of Bernadette H Foose

Bernadette H. Foose of Newburgh, NY died Saturday, January 20, 2024 in St Luke’s Hospital, Newburgh. She was 95. The daughter of Harry and Lucy Hillis of New Lexington, OH. Bernadette was a stay at home Mom who always had an extra place at the table for her five son’s friends. She was involved in the community with TOPS, Our Lady of the Lake-Church of St Patrick and of course the sports they all played. She made time to help so many. Bernadette helped her sister-in- law, Eileen raise her children Londa (Maxson of Newburgh) and Larry (Foose of Lovettsville, VA); and for a time had 7 kids “I loved every minute”. When she found herself an empty nester she worked as a School Bus Driver with George M. Carroll Transportation - Special Needs Children. She retired in 1998 to spend more time with family. Bernadette and Warren moved from New Lexington to Newburgh in 1953 for his Operating Engineer job (Local #825) on the New York State Thruway. His new assignment turned into a long term commitment and a move for the family that lasted his whole career. Bernadette attended St Rose Catholic School and graduated from St Aloysius Academy, New Lexington. Survivors include her two sons David Foose of Longmont, CO and Eric Foose of Newburgh, NY and her sister Donna H Smith of Newburgh, NY. Her eight grandchildren: Chelsea Foose, Heather Foose, Hunter Foose, Jacob Foose, Jessica Foose – Kratochwil, Justin Foose, Kendall Foose and Nicholas Foose. The great grandchildren are: Emmitt and Ivy Holien, Isla and Asher Foose, Isabella and Mason Kratochwil. Her surviving niece Londa, her husband Jim Maxson and her great nephew Jimmy Maxson, and nephews Larry Foose, Keith and Clint Smith, and Jim and Michael Ryan. Her wish to have a daughter was fulfilled with Daughter-in-Laws and they are: Alice (Mason) Foose, Patricia (Forsyth) Foose, Susan (Foose) Buonomo and Wendy (Vanasco) Foose. Bernadette will join those who predeceased her; Warren G Foose, husband of 50 plus years, her parents mentioned earlier, three of her sons, Glen Foose, Steven Foose and Mark Foose, and one grandson Bryan Foose.
