Obituary of James Hawks
Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James "Jim" Hawks also known as "My love, Daddy, Dad, Pop, Pops, Pop Pop, Peepa, and Grandpa" of Wurtsboro, NY (1/28/39-7/13/20)
Passed away peacefully surrounded by his ever loving wife and family after a long hard fight with vascular disease.
Jim was born in El Dorado, KS to Robert and Mary Hawks.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Virginia, his Brother Dave, and nephew Dave.
He is survived by his "love" Beth & their six children: Christopher Hawks & wife Trish, Wendy Gerstein & husband Neal, Jeremy Hawks & wife Beth, Kerri Mears, Alison Hansen & husband Eric, Katie Durland & husband Tim and "adopted daughter" Shannon O'Leary and husband Conor. And 19 grandchildren: Chelsea, Andrew, August, Britney, Jimmy, Trevor, Tyler, Jake, Abraham, Hugh, Mikayla, Eliza, Savannah, Mallory, Robert, Cullen, Nolan, Maxwell, and Blaire. His brother Neil Hawks and his wife Cathy, his sister in law Nancy Hawks, his nieces Jennifer & Dana and nephews Jonathan & Steve.
Jim graduated from C.W. Post with a bachelor's degree in business administration. His career included many different professions, but mainly being a salesman/businessman. He was always known for his incredible work ethic and warm smile wherever his career took him.
Jim was a man filled with an indescribable and unwavering love and gentleness. He was the most patient, kind, caring, loving, smart, wise, resilient, hardworking man. His love for his wife and family transcends this physical world, and will be felt forever through the beautiful family he has created. And through the extraordinary and rare love he and his wife share. It's an unbreakable and exceptional bond that will withstand this temporary separation and go on forever. What brought Jim the most joy were his wife, family, nature, hiking, camping, traveling, reading, playing cards, dancing, and of course BBQ'ing (anyone whose had his BBQ already knows- there's nothing better than Jim's BBQ)
His wife & family will carry on his legacy through the very things he enjoyed and loved most. And most importantly through the love they all share. He will be profoundly missed. Grateful is an understatement for how lucky we all are to have been able to share his beautiful life with him. Until we meet again...."Cheers!" And "Stick it in your ear!"
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to St. Jude's children's hospital.
A celebration of his wonderful life will be held at a later date
This is my wish for you: Comfort on difficult days, smiles when sadness intrudes, rainbows to follow the clouds, laughter to kiss your lips, sunsets to warm your heart, hugs when spirits sag, beauty for your eyes to see, friendships to brighten your being, faith so that you can believe, confidence for when you doubt, courage to know yourself, patience to accept the truth, Love to complete your life.
