Obituary of Andrew R. Civale

Sergeant (Retired) Andrew Robert Civale, son of the late Joseph Civale and Trophimenae (Minnie) Postiglione Civale, was born on June 5, 1930, in Schenectady, NY. While growing up in Schenectady, he graduated from Not Terrace High School, was a member of the boy scouts, Troop 66 St. Anthony’s Church and pursued his love for music. While in junior high and high School, Sergeant Civale, developed his wonderful talent performing with the Western Gateway Band and various other orchestras in New York’s Capital District. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1948 where he dedicated his service to the United States Military Academy and the USMA Band for over 27 years. He was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Church, NY, was District Deputy at the Hudson Valley Chapter Knights of Columbus, District 53, a Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus, Council 444, Newburgh, NY, and a member of the Catholic War Veterans, Post 386. His Christian life was as beautiful as the music he performed, and his influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew him. Everyone who was blessed to know him will always remember his beaming smile and infectious laugh. He quietly departed this life on Tuesday, 25 April 2023, in Suffern, New York. He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Civale. He is survived by his wife Angela (Verteramo) Civale, whom he married in August 1950. His exceptional life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children: Daughters Lynn O’Dell of New Windsor NY, JoAnn Civale, West Haverstraw NY, Donna Murphy, Washingtonville NY, Alisa Galli Frommer, New Windsor, NY; sons-in-law Barry Frommer of New Windsor NY and Joseph Murphy of Fort Montgomery, NY; brothers Joseph Civale & wife Sharon, Schenectady NY; William Civale, Saratoga, NY, sister-in-law Carole Civale, Schenectady, NY; four grandchildren Kimberlee Galu, Fort Montgomery NY, Richard O’Dell & wife Susan, Cornwall, NY, Carrie Vanderweit & husband Carlton, Nanuet, NY and Joseph O’Dell & wife Ashleigh, New City, NY; devoted friend Nancy Stupple; five great grandchildren Julianne Galu and Autumn Galu, Fort Montgomery NY, Leah Christman, Emelia O’Dell and Rachel O’Dell, Cornwall, NY; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:30 pm on May 30, 2023, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Chapel, West Point, NY followed by the internment at the West Point Cemetery, West Point, NY. Those who plan to attend the funeral and/or participate in the procession are asked to meet at the West Point Visitor’s Center (north-end parking lot) at 1:00 pm. This will allay the requirement to obtain a visitor’s security badge to enter West Point. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Andrew’s name to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital; htps://www.stjude.org memorials and dedications.
