William Elwood “Bill” Tubbs, 83, of New Windsor, NY, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2023 in Newburgh after several months of illness. Bill was the youngest of seven children, he was born in New Windsor on June 30th, 1939 to the late Asa and Elizabeth (Allen) Tubbs. He lived his entire life on the same family property in New Windsor where he built his home along with his beloved wife Jean M (Becker) of 52 years before her death in 2016. He worked in construction as a laborer for Local 754 in Rockland County for 27 years before retiring in 1993 from Local 17 in Newburgh. Bill enjoyed working tinkering and building things, he always had to be working on something. He grew up on the river and always had fond memories of his 1957 yellowjacket boat. He later became known for his local firewood business that he started prior to retirement and especially loved working with his Ford tractor and driving around town in his red Hummer. Bill left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He will be remembered fondly and deeply missed. Bill is survived by his daughter, Penny (Tubbs) Butler and son-in-law Brandon Butler of Orlando, FL. His grandson, Nicholas Repko, and his granddaughter, Phoebe Butler, also of Orlando. He is also survived by his sister Edna Bruno of Florida, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Jean, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Margaret Prokosch, Richard Tubbs, Dorothy Dawson-Wright, George Tubbs, and Elsie Bedell. He is also predeceased by his close nephew and companion Dale Prokosch. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Hudson Valley Funeral Home, 239 Quassaick Ave in New Windsor on Sunday, March 12th from 2-4 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, March 13th at 10 AM followed by a private burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in New Windsor.
