Obituary of Rita A. Hovencamp

Rita Ann Hovencamp, 86, of Newburgh, NY, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026. She was born on September 30, 1939, in Monticello, NY, to Roy and Leanora Foster. Rita was married to William Hovencamp for over 60 years until his passing in 2013. Together, they raised five sons in Newburgh, primarily on Taft Avenue, where she remained a lifelong resident. Rita was a creative soul who loved to travel, especially to tropical destinations. Throughout her life, she held many roles, but her most cherished were being a devoted mother, grandmother, and the heart of the neighborhood. She is survived by her sister, Lee of Virginia; three sons, Billy Hovencamp and wife, Donna, Terry Hovencamp and wife, Cynthia, and Kevin Hovencamp and wife, Rebecca. She was cherished deeply by her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren and even has a great, great grandson on the way. Rita was predeceased by her husband, William, and two sons, Michael and Steven. Visitation will be held at Hudson Valley Funeral Home on Monday, April 6, from 4:00–7:00 p.m., followed by a gathering to celebrate Rita’s life at the Goodwill Fire Department from 7:15–9:00 p.m. All are welcome. Her burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Rita will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
