Please share a memory of Rosette to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rosette Antoinette Sokol, a longtime Fishkill resident, died on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Montefiore St. Luke’s Hospital, Newburgh. She was 75.
Born December 16, 1949 in Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Mary Di Marco Maddalena. Raised in Beacon, since 1954, she graduated from St. John’s the Evangelist Catholic School in 1964, graduated from Beacon High School in 1968, and graduated from Dutchess Community College in 1970 with an A.A.S degree in Dental Assisting.
On October 10, 1970 in St. John’s the Evangelist Church in Beacon, she married Henry Leigh Sokol, her lifetime companion. Mr. Sokol survives at home in Fishkill.
Before graduating from D.C.C., Mrs. Sokol worked temporarily one summer at IBM in the manufacturing department in East Fishkill, 1969 and after graduating, she worked for various dentists all over and also worked as a waitress earlier in her lifetime. She was talented in art, especially painting canvas pictures. She worked at Tallix in the late 1980’s designing and constructing sculptures. She loved to read, cook, bake, and sew for the past 50 years.
In addition to her husband, Henry, she is survived by two sons, Ricky Sokol, Fishkill, NY, and Anthony Sokol, Lititz, PA, with wife Heidi, and a granddaughter, Sophia; one brother, Michael Maddalena with wife Anne, Queens, NY and a sister Argia Maddalena Travis with husband Timothy Travis, Cold Spring, NY; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Robert Maddalena in 2023.
In her younger years, Rose stayed home most of time babysitting, entertaining, and raising her two sons and became a good housewife. Rosette was a very kind, thoughtful, and loving wife, mother, and grandmother most of the time and always gave friendly advice to those who needed it.
Rose had a wonderful sense of humor and liked socializing with people she met all over. Her faith in Jesus was strong, exemplified by selflessness for her family and others. She was quick to make a gift for a neighbor and go out her way to say hello to a stranger. Rose loved to walk, swim, and enjoy watching the NY Yankees (an avid fan) on TV and at the stadium.
Rosette also loved going through neighborhoods during Christmas time adoring everyone’s lights, decorations, and displays.
She also enjoyed traveling all over the United States with family and going to Hollywood, South Florida during the winter months. She endured many hardships in her life, but always fought and did the best she could with what she had. She will surely be missed by family, relatives, and people she knew.
