Obituary of Ernest C. Wagner

Ernest C. Wagner, Ernie to those who knew him, passed away on April 1, 2025 in New City, New York at the age of 74. Ernie was predeceased by his loving wife of 51 years, Patricia as well his brothers; Donald, Richard and Bruce. Ernie is survived by his daughters, Christine Wagner and Michele Blossom; sons-in-law Richard Krauss and Daniel Blossom; as well as his surviving siblings; Martha, Duane and Debbie, extended family and friends. Ernie was born January 4, 1951 in Huntington, NY to Donald and Thelma Wagner. He graduated from Brentwood High School, class of 1969. Ernie then went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Navy. After completing his active duty, he continued his commitment to national service through the Naval Reserves until his retirement in 1996. His military career reflected a deep sense of duty and patriotism that remained a cornerstone of his identity throughout his life. Ernie never missed putting out the flag! Ernie also devoted his time to his community as a volunteer fireman with Brentwood Fire Department's Company 5 in the 1980's. Following his military service, Ernie built a long and steady career with New York State civil service as a plant utility engineer, managing power plant operations at different facilities until his retirement. Ernie was a devoted husband and father and missed his wife, Pat immensely after her passing. Ernie found joy and peace spending time at the family camp in the Adirondacks, sitting on the back deck and watching the river. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially "his girls." A memorial service with military honors will be held for Ernie, June 7, 2025 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Hudson Valley Funeral Home, 239 Quassaick Ave, New Windsor, NY. Following the service, a repast will be held at New Windsor Fire Department, 275 Walsh Ave, New Windsor, NY. In keeping with Ernie’s commitment to service and patriotism, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a Veterans organization of your choice. Donations can also be made to United Hospice, Joe Raso Hospice Residence in memory of Ernie.
