Obituary of George R. Cote
Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
George Reed Cote of New Windsor, NY formerly of the Bronx, a retired Microfiche Technician manager for Paine Webber, entered into rest on April 7, 2025, at the age of 82 from Stage 4 metastatic melanoma. He was the son and eldest child of George H.P. Cote and Constance (Sheffer) and was born in the Bronx on October 25, 1942. George was a 25 year member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #444, having held the position of Faithful Navigator and having earned the honor of Knight of the Year.
George was predeceased by his loving wife of 44 years, Ana R. Cote (Driggs). He was also predeceased by his three sisters; Adrienne, Jeanne, and Constance. There were many times George could not believe he was the “last one left”. George loved the Yankees, bowling, and music. He was a drummer who marched in many a Thanksgiving or St. Patrick’s parade. He could often be found sitting with his cat, Jilly, watching old movies or a ballgame. George was lovingly called Peppep by his grandchildren who happily sat around a holiday table waiting to hear what kind of story he’d tell next. George and Ana moved from Yonkers to New Windsor in ‘98 to be closer to their grandchildren. And this is where he found brotherhood with the Knights of Columbus. He was very proud of his membership in this community and often referred to the council members as “my guys”.
George is survived by his three children: Isabel Prokos and her husband George of Hartsdale, Annette Cote McTigue and her husband Ken of New Windsor, and his son, George E. and his wife, Sherene of Suffern. He is also survived by Gilda Cote of the Bronx, who loved him dearly. George is survived by his 8 grandchildren: Keely McTigue-DeGolier and her husband David of Cornwall, Cavan, Owen, Quinlan, Griffin, Brayden, Brenna McTigue of New WIndsor, and Charlotte Cote of the Bronx. George also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
The family wishes to thank the teams at MSK in NYC and West Harrison, and NY Presbyterian Hospital in Cortland for their exceptional care and concern for his well being. George was fortunate to have many devoted doctors and health care providers who watched over him. His daughter also wishes to thank her friends who watched over George these past seven weeks as if he were their own father. She is forever grateful for the love shown to him.
