Obituary of Amy R. Delaune

Please share a memory of Amy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Emilia (Amy) Delaune was born in New Haven, Ct in 1923 to Giuseppe Reitano and Madelina (Acito). She attended nursing school briefly, but left to marry James Delaune of New Orleans in 1945. They were stationed at many different post courtesy of the USAF, with Japan and Limestone, Maine being her 2 favorites. They arrived at Stewart Air Force Base in 1957. She became greatly involved in the Officers Wives Club for many years at the bustling post until its regrettable closure. She was a talented seamstress whipping up suits, and dresses and whatever else caught her fancy. She was an excellent cook combining her Italian heritage along with her husnabd’s Cajun roots for a wonderful kitchen repertoire. She became the quintessential doting nana with the birth of her two grandsons, never losing the twinkle in her eye when being with them or mentioning them. She was able to stay in her home of 68 years until she passed peacefully due to her dedicated and loving caregivers. We will forever be grateful to them. She is survived by her son James Delaune (Sophie), daughter Jeanine Delaune-Glendening, grandsons, Sean Glendening (Martina) and Michael Glendening (Kristina), and Step-granddaughter Shuai (Greg). She was predeceased by her husband James in 2014, siblings Marie Nastri Gambardella, Olga Reitano, Celia Picardo, Andrew Reitano, and son-in-law Dr. Thomas Glendening. Services will be at the convenience of the family.
